How to Analyze Zomato Sales Data Using Power BI
Zomato is one of the leading online food delivery platforms in the world, operating in over 20 countries and serving millions of customers. As a data analyst, you might be interested in exploring the sales data of Zomato and finding out some insights and trends. In this blog post, I will show you how to create a simple but effective dashboard using Power BI to analyze Zomato sales data.
The Data
The data set I used for this dashboard is from Kaggle, which contains information about over 9,000 restaurants from Zomato. The data set has 15 columns, such as Restaurant ID, Restaurant Name, Country Code, City, Cuisines, Average Cost for two, Currency, Has Table booking, Has Online delivery, Is delivering now, Switch to order menu, Price range, Aggregate rating, Rating color, and Rating text. You can download the data set from [here].
The Dashboard
The dashboard I created consists of six visuals that show different aspects of the sales data. The dashboard has a red background with black panels to match the Zomato theme. Here are the visuals and what they show:
Restro based on city country: This is a bar chart that shows the number of restaurants in different countries. You can see that India has the most restaurants, followed by the United States and the United Kingdom. You can also hover over the bars to see the breakdown by city.
OnlineDelivery vs restro: This is a pie chart that shows the percentage of restaurants that have online delivery options. You can see that only 26.69% of the restaurants offer online delivery, while 73.31% do not. This might indicate a potential area for improvement for Zomato.
Restro vs price: This is a bar chart that shows the number of restaurants in different price ranges. You can see that most of the restaurants are in the low to medium price range, while only a few are in the high or very high price range. You can also hover over the bars to see the average cost for two in USD.
Restro yr on qtr mth: This is a line chart that shows the number of restaurants opening over the years from 2010 to 2018. You can see that there is a steady increase in the number of restaurants, with some peaks and dips in certain quarters and months. You can also filter the data by year, quarter, or month using the slicers on the right.
TableBook vs restro: This is another pie chart that shows the percentage of restaurants that have table booking options. You can see that only 12.3% of the restaurants offer table booking, while 87.7% do not. This might also indicate a potential area for improvement for Zomato.
Restro vs rating: This is a bar chart that shows the number of restaurants in different rating categories, from 0 to 5. You can see that most of the restaurants have ratings between 3 and 4, while only a few have ratings below 2 or above 4.5. You can also hover over the bars to see the rating text and color.
The Insights
By looking at the dashboard, you can gain some insights and trends about the sales data of Zomato. Here are some of them:
India is the largest market for Zomato, with over 8,000 restaurants across 98 cities. The United States and the United Kingdom are the second and third largest markets, respectively.
Online delivery and table booking are not very common among the restaurants, as only about a quarter and a tenth of them offer these options, respectively. This might suggest that Zomato can increase its revenue and customer satisfaction by providing more incentives and support for these features.
The price range and the average cost for two of the restaurants vary widely across different countries and currencies. For example, the average cost for two in India is about $15, while in Brazil it is about $70. This might indicate that Zomato needs to consider the local economic and cultural factors when setting its prices and commissions.
The number of restaurants opening has been increasing over the years, with some seasonal variations. For example, there was a spike in the number of restaurants opening in the first quarter of 2015, which might be related to some marketing or promotional campaigns by Zomato. There was also a dip in the number of restaurants opening in the fourth quarter of 2016, which might be related to some external or internal challenges faced by Zomato.
The ratings of the restaurants are mostly positive, with over 80% of them having ratings above 3. However, there are also some outliers, such as restaurants with ratings below 2 or above 4.5. These might indicate some exceptional or problematic cases that Zomato needs to pay attention to and address.
The Conclusion
In this blog post, I showed you how to create a simple but effective dashboard using Power BI to analyze Zomato sales data. You can use this dashboard to explore the data and find out some insights and trends. You can also customize the dashboard to suit your needs and preferences. You can download the dashboard file from [here].
